Chocolate Sugar Cookie Recipe
by Georganne Bell (You will want to visit Georganne’s site. She has some fabulous tips for making these cookies.)
Cream butter, shortening and sugar together. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Add baking powder and salt and mix again. Stir in the cocoa until well blended. Add flour 1 cup at a time. If you are going to make these cookies right away, add 3 1/2 cups flour. If you are going to “chill” the dough, or just wait for another day to make your cookies, stop at 3 cups. Roll out on lightly floured surface. Bake at 375 F for 7-10 minutes. Georganne recommends rolling cookies about 3/16″ thick and bake for 7 minutes.

Reindeer Sugar Cookie Instructions
Make and bake gingerbread man chocolate sugar cookies. Allow cookies to cool completely.

According to package directions mix up royal icing. Divide icing and color a little more than half light brown. The light brown royal icing should be flood consistency (see package instructions. Fill one pastry bag fitted with a #3 tip with the light brown royal icing. Fill the other bag with thicker piping consistency white royal icing.

With light brown royal icing draw outline of reindeer face on cookie. Fill in area with the royal icing. With the needle tool push icing to edge of cookie.

Pipe on antlers with the white icing.
Before icing sets, place a red m & m nose and royal icing eyes. Put two candy trees and a few red nonpareils at base of one antler to look like holly and berries.
