I am happy to partner with Disney Book Group to tell you about the newest book in the Mother Bruce series and show you how to make an easy Santa hat so kids will be playing Santa this Christmas.

Everyone’s favorite curmudgeonly bear is back in the new book Santa Bruce. This time he and his goslings are gearing up for Christmas! A case of mistaken identity has him playing Santa Claus to all of his new woodland friends. The illustrations and one-liners make this book one that kids and adult will like! Let me show you how to make a Santa Hat so your child can play Santa too!

Have you seen this children’s series about a bear? Bruce is a lot of things. He is a bear. He is a grump. He is a pretty decent cook. And he is a mother. One thing Bruce is not? Santa Claus. But that doesn’t stop the whole forest from lining up to give him their Christmas wishes when he becomes the victim of mistaken identity—again.

Kids will howl with laughter as award-winning author-illustrator Ryan T. Higgins delivers another hilarious story about this bear who just can’t catch a break.

The edge of the fleece trim over about a half inch and stitch. I used a very long stitch length, about 5.

Fold the trim piece right sides together and stitch along the end. Use 1/2 seam.

sew end of trim

Turn the red hat inside out. Place the white trim inside the hat. The right side of trim will be next to the wrong side (inside) of the hat.

Stitch around the top of the hat with 1/2 inch seam.

It is always fun to celebrate the season with a good book. One of our most loved family traditions is inviting friends over in their pajamas to drink hot chocolate and read Christmas books.

Be sure to check out Santa Bruce.  Ryan T. Higgins (ryanthiggins.com) is the author and illustrator. He is NOT a grumpy old black bear, but he DOES like making books about one—starting with the best-selling Mother Bruce, which received the E. B. White Read-Aloud Award and the Ezra Jack Keats New Illustrator Honor. He lives in Maine with his wife and kids… and too many pets.
